A recovered simplicity

The story of the Grotto Bundi is almost a secular one. In the more authentic frame of the Ticino, more than 80 years ago, a certain Abbondio Calderari opens the antique Grotto, where his name is linked to in the dialectal form of “Bundi”. Nowadays as then, the Grotto Bundi welcomes its guests, immersed in an unpolluted nature on the feet of the Mount Generoso. 

Tradition and attention to authenticity fuse together in these warm surroundings where delicious food is created and presented with passion by Sandrine and Stefano Romelli, proprietors and managers since 1993, almost quarter of a century ago. It is a journey to rediscover the flavors of the past, where the polenta, cooked in the fireplace, is proposed in countless varieties along with game, meat and mushrooms. Grotto Bundi: authentic excellence

In 2018 Grotto Bundi was awarded, for the fifth consecutive year, the prestigious Certificate of Excellence by Trip Advisor, the world renowned travel website providing independent travel related reviews by travellers.
The Certificate of Excellence rewards hotels, restaurants and other attractions which consistently receive first rate traveller reviews. Accordingly, from these independent reviews published on Trip Advisor, Grotto Bundi is considered by its clients to be the most outstanding grotto-restaurant in the Mendrisiotto region of Switzerland.

The Certificate of Excellence takes many factors into consideration such as quality, quantity and the most recent reviews by travellers over a twelve month period.

In order to qualify a facility must maintain a constant overall score of at least 4 out of 5 stars, have received the minimum number of reviews and have been present on the website for at least one year.
